When everything has a purpose
Women often become very good at doing things for a reason: working, caring, organising, cooking, helping, learning, exercising for health or networking for business.
Even hobbies can become projects to improve, monetise, share online or perform well. Before long, activities that once brought pleasure can start to feel like another responsibility.
Enjoyment is enough
There is value in doing something simply because you like it. Reading a novel, playing a game, gardening, painting, walking on the beach, learning pottery or watching a favourite series does not need to produce an outcome.
You do not have to be good at it, finish it, sell it or explain why it matters. Enjoyment is a valid reason on its own.
Remember who you are outside your roles
We all carry roles: partner, parent, worker, business owner, daughter, friend or carer. Personal interests give us somewhere to exist beyond what other people need from us.
They can reconnect us with parts of ourselves that have been quiet for a while, and remind us that our identity is larger than our to-do list.
Make a little room
You do not need a whole free day. Start by noticing what you miss doing or what makes time pass pleasantly. Then protect a small amount of space for it, even if it is only twenty minutes once a week.
You are allowed to enjoy something that achieves absolutely nothing.
